Responsive Management®:
2005 Public Seminars
Participant Evaluation Summary
Comments from Participants:
1. How satisfied are you that the information provided in this
seminar is relevant to the performance of your work or your organization?
Material presented will be very helpful in may daily work.
Very valuable course. Will help me manage better.
Very relevant dealing with the daily struggles of achieving high performance.
Good training! I appreciate the input.
The logical process for feedback really helped me prepare for some negative
feedback I am facing with my subordinates. The defined sequence helps me to
organize and move forward confidently.
(Very relevant.) It is training that you normally don't find anywhere else.
Great class! Best class I've taken on interpersonal insight.
Providing feedback whether negative or positive is relevant. How to improve
meetings and the exercise associated with it. (Very relevant.)
Provides for a structured process.
I found the one on one feedback and materials very valuable to me in my career.
The most relevant was the interpersonal items. The "most probable
cause" exercise was most frustrating. Felt had little understanding on the
how to part.
Good course for managers – some practice needed in real world.
Will take practice to master skills.
The portion of the class on interpersonal skills was very helpful. Morning
session on third day wasn't as useful to me. The form "5 Whys" etc.
seem cumbersome. I like the idea of finding root causes. Just the format is
awkward. Otherwise good class. Enjoyed it.
Very relevant.
Very relevant
– want some practice in this.
Used great examples and handled each example well.
Two areas where training is useful
– subject manner is not intuitive.
Clarified some very sensitive areas of interpersonal relations.
Good useful information than can be applied as soon as I get to the office.
Great eye opener.
It will help me understand better as a leader.
Very applicable.
A lot of the topics covered will really help me become a better supervisor and
will help me communicate with people better.
I can use this information on so many levels (i.e., coworkers, clients,
supervisees and supervisors). This is great!
Identified and focused on most difficult aspect of supervision.
Giving negative feedback is important; could use more role play time.
Very satisfied. Feedback is the one item I feel need to improve the most
on and this class has given me some tools to do that.
Can use to get employees to work better together.
Good use of examples.
The role playing is very helpful.
Very relevant -- everyday usage.
2. How satisfied are you that the information provided in this
seminar is sensitive to and positively responds to the differences between people?
Course gets into different areas to explore and give you an inside look.
The course and materials dealt well with ideas on addressing differences with
people.
Again most helpful on interpersonal.
I am not sure if there was any issues on anything about race, casts, creeds or
origin.
Very sensitive.
This area handled very well; important in a diverse group like DOT.
Accounted for different types of people and communication styles.
Several times we discussed interpersonal relationships.
It was presented a bit too "PC."
Will always be careful in the application of these techniques.
Models/templates seem very flexible.
I learned different ways in approaching a situation that is negative, and
turning it into a positive.
I appreciate your ability and intention to share feedback on a compassionate,
effective manner.
If feedback is received and given in an effective, sensitive, personal manner,
then it does work to address differences.
Worksheets should be helpful.
Using the procedures and forms provided can work in any situation.
3. How satisfied are you with your ability at this time to apply
the information covered in this seminar to your work or organization?
All info presented can be applied to everyday tasks.
Fairly – will need to practice and rehearse but written materials provide the
outline to do so.
Good data to take to work!
I'll be using this almost immediately.
Due to lack of time, most likely portion of the learning will be implemented;
however the learning is forever.
I have some concerns with my ability to request feedback from a negative person
in a meeting. It isn't natural and will take practice.
This is something I recognize is going to take practice. Receiving the tools to
apply the information. Patience contributed to satisfaction.
Shouldn't have any problem implementing it right away.
I think I can effectively apply most of the material.
Will be able to use right away.
I have to have the templates in front of me.
I enjoyed this and I will be using some of the worksheets.
There are definitely tools/skills that I can take and apply.
Again, some practice with evaluation in a non-working environment would be
great.
Some things I already applied and it was nice to have another view.
Definitely. Some internal dynamics specific to me limit application in my
supervisory role. But the topics can be applied in some manner to all
professional relationships and especially with clients.
Can hardly wait to get back to the office.
Very timely and relevant information.
I will need some practice and time to refine my techniques.
I feel I learned enough tools today to apply this information to my position.
I'm confident that I can use what I learned today to make a difference in my
work place.
I have some areas that need improvement, but now I have a target to aim for.
Practice with forming my own words will increase ability.
I could use more role play.
I feel much more confident in my ability to provide positive and negative
feedback.
You were very clear; I need practice.
Still working on the consistency.
I need practice but now have the tools to do so.
I'm worried I'll forget key portions during a feedback session.
Gives me a basis and tool with which to approach the problem.
4. How satisfied are you that you had sufficient opportunities to
participate?
Yes, there was plenty of time to participate.
Excellent!
Plenty. Interactive class.
I am not one who enjoys participation classes. I enjoyed it in this class and
felt it was worthwhile.
You always sought feedback from us.
Many opportunities / useful exercises.
Great opportunities for active participation.
Very participatory.
Very much involved.
Good participation by everyone.
The exercises were good – not too long on sheet.
Very good exercises. They were fun and stimulating. Good group of people really
helped. We are here because we want to.
Good amount of participation opportunities and activities.
If you have the opportunity to group participants by industry, it would be
useful. I suspect that was done to some extent. Seemed like the
"UW" people had some different dynamics than municipal
government/consulting people.
Very much. Answered a lot of my questions.
Much easier to participate in the small group.
Dick was very receptive to any comments and feedback.
At this time, I have to talk with my supervisor regarding the issue of
implementing what I've learned today to the employees that I supervisor
occasionally.
Good balance of teaching and doing.
Questions and feedback were always handled/included.
Very easy to participate in this seminar.
I probably said too much.
Demonstrations were very helpful.
Didn't need as frequent of breaks that we had.
Could have used another opportunity to role play the approach.
5. How satisfied are you that your questions were answered
adequately?
All questions were answered in detailed manner with examples.
A great patience in answering questions and providing examples.
For most part, I received complete answer but there were occasions that I did
not get what I was looking for.
Quite satisfied.
Received full explanations and answers to questions.
My questions and comments were answered to my full satisfaction.
Very responsive to questions.
Especially liked questions turning into role playing so we could better
understand how to handle interpersonal situations.
The questions I had were satisfactorily answered and I received helpful input.
Every questions was answered in great detail and in different variations to get
the point.
Very much. I find you supportive and looking for a way to give information
to comments and questions.
Very good answers.
You are very thorough and open to suggestion.
Thank you for the individualized attention.
6. How satisfied are you that this was a good use of your time?
Provided concentrated layout of skills, tools to use in implementing the
skills.
This is very timely in equipping me to face current issues.
Course is excellent. The time away from work will hurt very much.
Great use of my time, but three days away will leave me a mountain to catch up
on.
Great use of my three days.
Two day class rather than three days.
Good value at this stage in my career as a new engineering manager.
Mid-morning was less satisfying on third day.
Yes – worth my time.
Very good class.
Good use of time.
Some of group problem solving skills have been covered in other DOT courses.
Class can be conducted in two days.
Hard to give up three days but it was worth it.
I especially liked the theory of "educating" and not necessarily
trying to "convince."
Very satisfied.
2 - 3 hours is better for me because I don't sit still well.
Very good. Should do this once a year to refresh.
Need more such seminars.
Good time spent.
Small group promoted interaction.
The time was used very efficiently
– not boring material.
I learned great management skills that I wouldn't have been able to learn if not
for this class.
I can't wait to put this into practice.
Information was presented at a workable pace and all information that was
promised was presented -- didn't run out of time.
I would like to learn more and am interested in exploring the manuals.
Can use the material now.
Very satisfied. I was concerned this would not be useful for me. I
like the clear concise information.
Other -- What other training topics would you like to have
presented?
Mentoring and personnel professional development.
This would be a great course and should be mandatory for newly promoted TE-4 and
above.
Wish we could structure as a 2-day with follow-up 1-day.
More job-specific leadership courses.
Will recommend others in organization to attend in February.
Similar management topics.
I like the quotes – good idea.
Conflict management.
I appreciate how you keep to schedule.
There was a lot of possible information that could have been covered. Role
playing and examples of many different types of communication would be valuable.
Connecting feedback with process development.
Evaluating for immeasurable qualities, especially with difficult employees.
Overview of other skills for management and sessions on other skills.
Will recommend. Anything supervisory/managerial.
Generating enthusiasm with resistant workers/employees.
More team work oriented when you have difficult employees.
Running successful staff meetings.
More time for discussion.
Development or referral of role play guide addressing some of the 56 questions
would be extremely helpful to use as a launching point or offer different
perspective for supervisors.
Performance evaluations -- (how to conduct effective appraisals).
